WHAT IS TIN?
We're all very inquisitive individuals here at the shop. Lately, we've had a love for decor and accessories made of tin. They look rustic but seemingly charming at the same time. Now, we never like Chemistry when we were in school {although we're sure it's a wonderful subject, it's just not at the top of our favorite list}. So, Tin is actually an element with the symbol Sn {standing for Stannum} and atomic number 50 in the same category as the metal Aluminum. Juicy piece of information right? Anyway, this substance is of course silvery-gray and is widely used to make Aluminum foils and tin cans {well, I guess that's why they're called tin cans}. But what's more exciting is when it is mixed with other elements or metals.
TIN + COPPER = Bronze
TIN + COPPER + ANTIMONY + LEAD = Pewter
Again, who knew? We're loving this element and chemistry all of a sudden!
